Dear Friends--

We at Beacon hope this letter finds you well at the end of a year of great change in our world, our country, and our neighborhood here in Kensington. We are so thankful for you and your support.

During this season of giving, we’ve been actively providing educational support at Hackett Elementary, celebrating marriages and baptisms, hosting weekly welcome dinners for community members, monthly dinners for church goers and more!

As the year comes to a close, we hope you can help us amplify Beacon’s light through donations of your time or money in any of the following ways:

• $25 sponsors weekly communion

• $25 sponsors a local child’s participation in our community events

• $50 sponsors a weekly dinner for the Kensington Dinner Project

• $125 sponsors a week of support and staffing at Hackett Elementary

• $1200 sponsors a month of worship and community outreach at Beacon

• Other one-time, monthly or quarterly gift

Volunteer with us:

• Newsletter preparation and mailings: 2 hours/month.

• Mow Beacon’s wonderful front lawn March-October: 2 hours twice a month.

• Provide childcare to kiddos while parents participate in regular and/or special events: 2 hours/week and/or as needed. Clearances required.

• Ensure community meals run smoothly by volunteering to be on the set up or break down teams: 1 hour/month.

Supporting Beacon in this season is an especially powerful way to come alongside us and help us amplify Beacon’s presence as a light in Kensington. In a time characterized by isolation and volatility, we are working to build a more connected and welcoming community. Your support will empower us to keep offering a wide welcome to all our neighbors.

Some Highlights from 2016:

Adapting our programming to meet new neighborhood needs: classroom support and connection among newer neighbors

Sharing stories with up to 75 first graders at Hackett Elementary

Making space for connection over meals, in the yard, and under the lights

Opening our doors to community groups looking for a safe space to meet and grow

Creating community during seasonal events like pumpkin-painting, s’mores, and gingerbread house decorating (we’ve welcomed over 175 people just this fall, many new to Beacon)

Sending Co-Director Rev. Karen Rohrer to a new position at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary to direct their Church Planting Initiative

Dreaming about how to make our building more functional in order to offer an even wider welcome to all our neighbors in 19125
