The Studio at Beacon offers a safe space for creativity and imagination for children and youth after school and during the summer.

All programs are free, non-religious, open to all, and include all necessary supplies and a healthy snack.

The Leadership studio

Members of the Leadership Studio, or Studio Volunteer Corps, will be trained in job skill and nonprofit basics by staff within and from beyond Beacon. They will meet once monthly, on Monday afternoons as a group, as well as volunteer at Tuesday or Wednesday program from 3:30-6:15pm to assist with Story and Art Studio.  This group will gain the skills to work well together, focus and prioritize tasks, and, most importantly, try on and practice a community leadership role.

Summertime:

Open Yard & Garden Hour

During the summer, our afterschool program shifts from M/T/W to Tuesdays 12-2pm and a garden program on Thursdays, 2:30-3:30p.  Join us for games, urban gardening, snacks, a stories, and quality time with neighbors of all ages. Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Story Studio

Beacon offers a literacy and creative writing program for K-5th grade students at Horatio B. Hackett Elementary school. We work alongside literacy educators to foster a love of creative expression through reading, listening, writing, and drawing. This is a weekly program offered alongside the Philadelphia public school schedule. We welcome volunteers to join us! Summertime:

Open Yard

During the summer, our afterschool program shifts from M/T/W to Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am-12pm.  Join us for games, urban gardening, snacks, stories, and quality time with neighbors of all ages. Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult. 

Community Art Events

Beacon regularly offers community art events that foster relationships between neighbors and individual and communal creativity. Some examples include gingerbread house making, Mardi Gras mask-making, s'mores in the yard, and story-sharing workshops.
